Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

I get what your saying but it is unnecessary ... I'd go with some good 12's and some 8's for mid bass and of course your component set for everything else and make sure its got some good silk tweets

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Common myth that subs of different sizes hit certain notes better. If that were true, why can 10's reach down to 28hz just as well as 18's?
6x9's are pointless, they're a sub for people who don't want to buy and amplify subs. At best they're a midbass speaker, but any 5.25/6.5/7/8" speaker used correctly can do the same job.
You are going to hit problems running more than a 4 stage system (High, midrange, midbass, and sub bass) simply for lack of HU output, and you'll be trying to achieve something that's completely unnecessary. Tweeters will reach from 20KHz down to 5KHz with ease, and mid range from 8Khz to 500Hz, with midbass from 1KHz to 40-50Hz and the subs picking up anything under 80Hz. That will cover every frequency with ease and have a flat response across the range if you research the TS specs of the speakers you want to use. But you could also achieve the same result with just 3 types of speakers done right; subs, mid range/bass, and tweets. Look into the builds of SQ champions and you'll see some of them only use a 3 stage system. In fact, research what frequency speakers should cover and you'll understand how numerous types of speakers are used purely for show and tend to ruin the sound quality of an install through cancellation.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

i want to install different size subs because each sub can hit different frequencies and respond better than others. its the same reason why i am installing 4 6x9s 4 6.5s and 2 8 midbass drivers. i want to cover every frequency possible and amplify it to perfection without distortion

Wait, so you're going to install three different size subs? Why?

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Kinda sounds like your going down the sound quality road nice im a big sq guy myself problem is I want it to sound crystal clear the way it was ment to sound and do that at pain full volume lol neat less to say I lack the funds to make that happen :-(

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

really money isnt the object if im going to do it correctly. im going to build this system over the next year and if i can have one either built to my needs or if their is a woofer that will cover the full spectrum of low bass so i wont have to run multiple subwoofers.

my plan down the road is to either build a bandpass that will cover all my ranges or install 10(s) 12(s) and a 18 so i can cover every single bass line and then build on that.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

The sundown sa line works and sounds good in 4th order imo haven't done one for a 15 yet though I doubt it would be any different from the 8's and 10 I did just more output what kind of money are you wanting to spend on a sub and how much power will you be able to give it ?

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

For customer service, I'd recommend Tantric. SQ wise, PSI and Tantric will be much the same. Since you have a ton of room and you're gonna spend some money, I'd suggest getting a single Tantric LD or MD 15/18. Talk to LyferXB9s, I think he's repping for Tantric now.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

well that looks like they are going to be the next people i speak with. ill get this system in and then build a new woofer and box around the it. this l7 is only going to be temporary since i wont be able to get the response out of it i want.

which of those companies would you recommend to be the best in sound quality

looking at some of the sundown audio E series...either way lots of research to come

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

If you want to get loud on low power for a decent price, get a sub built specifically for the enclosure you want to use or buy one that's known the shine in a 4th. Tantric Sounds or PSI will build to order or get a Sundown X.

Edit: Sorry, the X wouldn't work for you, they're more of a low end monster.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

i'm sure you could get a couple recommendations for subs that will work in a bandpass.
but it looks like that kicker is more suited in a ported enclosure.

be prepared to do some trial builds with the bandpass to get em to where they shine or get with someone familiar with the designs so you get as close as possible to optimum.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

thank you everyone for the help i guess its not going to happen. so im going to stick this turd in a ported box and deal with it until i can find what i really want. time to do some more research.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

heres the ported 3cu 30Hz and the port velocity was 23m/s at 29Hz

i hope im just doing something wrong with the program because i really want to build a bandpass box but if its not meant to be with the woofer then i guess ill be researching for the proper sub to combine with a perfect bandpass box

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Yeah, I get some farked up graphs too. 6th order looks good but needs to be 12cuft net, and I think you're wasting time, money and space for something that will disappoint. 4th is just as bad for space and is too peaky for my liking, same with the ported. Kickers were made for a large ported box to enhance the 40hz spot where most electronic and rap music hit, that's why they made a name for themselves but are shyt anywhere else in the frequency range.

My opinion, sell it and buy a couple cheap 10'2 or 12's that will do a better job in less space.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

what is the static gain for?
try vented, 3 cubes tuned to 36hz, 6" vent ....i think it looks like a better option for that sub.
if ya plot it out and post it i'm sure one of the brighter ones can chime in.
not sure what the vent velocity looks like think it was 25m/s at 30hz....closed it and didn't save it....sorry

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

thank you for the help i appreciate it.

anyways this is what i have come up with the pink line is a 6th order bandpass 6cuft @ 30Hz rear and 4cuft @ 55Hz front

the grey line is a ported box 3cuft @ 40Hz

and the teal is the 4th order still giving me ****. i have played with filters erased projects and started new and still come up with this.

the 6th order and the ported i made just to see if i could design something with a flat response at all and apparently i can tweak the numbers to get me something half assed flat but when it comes to the 4th order i am out of ideas

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Huh, odd. I'll have to DL WinIsd again and play round with it to see if you've done something funky.
Maybe try removing the filters except the Linkwitz.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

so this is what im constantly running into. the solobaric l7 has a Qts of .513 which i understand it is the resonance of the woofer but it also means that more useful in an open baffle environment. the more and more i play with numbers and winISD im starting to understand why i havent seen a l7 in a 4th order bandpass before.

the closest i have come to plateauing more instead of peaking was going to 8cu ft on the sealed side and 2.75 on the ported tuned to 48Hz

as you can see 666 i tried your numbers i have all the filters set and this is what it comes up with. if bandpass cannot be used for the woofer than what should i try next to cover the most notes(without buying more woofers at this time).

eventually i will cover the spectrum from low bass to high with separate woofers in individual boxes tuned specifically for them but as of now i am losing my mind with this 12

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Add about 0.1cuft to the ported side for sub displacement, that's about all a 12 will take up. When it's built and running, just swap the polarity or switch the phase 180 so it works how it would were it mounted normally.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Wins isd dose not account for any displacement you need to do that when you design your box .... so you need to find out how much room your port and sub take up and then add that to the respective side when designing so your volume comes out right

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

I will definitely do that when I get home later tonight and ill post the results. One thing I was wondering I wanted to keep the rear of the woofer in the ported chamber to help cool it. Is this going to affect my sound any and if not should I adjust for volume of speaker in the enclosure and increase the volume for what the speaker takes up?

Thanks for the input

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

Sealed resonance doesn't play too big a part in the equation, it really just extends the bandwidth I believe. The ported side will get you the loudness you want through volume and tuning will hit the sweet spot where you want it to play.
Set the numbers as I suggested and then change the sealed to see what it affects. Then change the ported and observe again. Then the tuning.

Re: working on enclosure ideas...NEED input

The main reason I want to go with this band pass box is because I'm not constricted by space I have a gmc yukon and all the room in the world for a box. I have one woofer and I'm trying to get as much as possible from the one speaker so that's why I have been leaning towards bandpass. Building a quality box is not an issue for me I just need help on tuning and the little tricks to go with it.

Anyways most of the music I will be playing is rock metal and some rap/hip hop rarely, so I want to pick up more of the bass guitar and drums. Either way I'm trying to hit as many notes as possible with this and to have it sound great while doing so.

Also yes I have added linkwitz transform in to act as cabin gain. So should I aim to tune the sealed side lower? For me to reach 34Hz on the sealed it suggest 6.65 cu ft then the ported is around 2 cu ft
