Re: 85 Mustang

I had 2 89 lincoln town cars & the stock alternator on those cars are weaksauce! 60 amp stock & burn out quick with even small aftermarket add ons. Check that because Fords electrical sucked during that era.

Re: 85 Mustang

I forgot I had a small box for 2 tens laying around.... I think I'm going to just do 2 ct sounds tropo v1's on the 750. I'll keep you guys posted on when the gear arrives!

Re: 85 Mustang

Okay well I'm going to do a CT sounds M750D

the specs are as follows

750 RMS @ 1 ohm @ 12.8V
600 RMS @ 2 ohm @ 12.8V
350 RMS @ 4 ohm @ 12.8V

Now my choices of subs are the following:

Obsidian Car Audio (10'')

SSA Shop - Sundown Audio E10 sub woofer

If I go with the obsidian I will run it at 2 ohms, if I go with the sundown, I may run it at 4 ohms. The sub is going into a SEALED box. I'm not going to worry about electrical until I get the equipment in the car and see how it does. If I need to upgrade after that I will. If not then that's great.

Re: 85 Mustang

Are you glassing this in to the car? If not, just pull the enclosure out before you head to the track. Then you add no weight at all AND you have bass when you're out driving around. Put a good AGM battery up front, swap out the alt for a better unit, and run some decent power to a pair of 10s that can be pulled out easily.

Or, if you're really going to do nothing but race the car and it has to be that hardcore, don't add a sub at all...

Yes I am, and the spare is already ripped out lol. I want to do the sundown e10 and I could run it on that ct750 but im worried about overpowering it... I'd run it at 2 ohms so it would be getting 600 watts at 12.8V, what if my voltage actually turns out surprising me and I send even more than 600 to it? I know sundowns are known for taking over rated but it is their entry level line of subwoofers. I also was looking at a soundqubed 750 as well. Its rated at 500 @ 2 ohms @ 14.4V... ah decisions decisions.

Re: 85 Mustang

yea the older mustangs are mostly used for more HP not more DB....id stay with a lower wattage like the amp i suggested to you and find something in that wattage range ...maybe a sundown e series 10 D2 or a skar ivx 10 or 12 sealed wont be that much space

yeah that's what I said I was thinking of doing on that amp... I am a bit concerned as far as my electrical goes though... I have nothing to go on either when it comes to other people doing systems in these cars because no one really does... lol.

I was also thinking about that. I would most likely end up doing an alt upgrade... I was thinking about a dcon 10 but everyone says they don't like sealed boxes....

Depending on your location I'd be willing to sell them when I eventually buy my new wheels.

Thank you and it's bone stock from the carb to the oil pan. Only real modification is full exhaust.

Also I was thinking of doing 2 8'' subs sealed to save weight, but I'm thinking about ditching that idea and doing an obsidian audio 10v3 sealed on this amp, CT Sounds M750 watts RMS Mini Class D Monoblock Amplifier | CT Sounds Premium Car Audio Equipment

I feel that it will sound cleaner and be louder than what I was planning on doing with the 8's (2 jbl 804's on 4-500)

Let me know what you guys think!

85 Mustang

It's been a long time since I've been on here. I sold my old civic to get this.

After over a year of rolling around listening to this I decided it was time to upgrade. I wanted to keep it in the car because I thought it was kind of cool that it still had the stock radio but enough was enough. I'm a basshead and need my music. My buddy gave me a head unit so I decided it was time to get to work!

I pulled the old one out and the hole in the dash was a little too big. After fighting with a sheet of abs plastic I ditched that idea and my dad and I made a trim ring out of 1/4'' MDF.

And I found some nice black vinyl...

And wrapped it up so it looked like this.

This was my first time doing anything like this and I think the finished product looks pretty good.

After I got that in I pulled off the dash pad and installed some Polk 3.5's

The plan is to get some matching Polk speakers for the rear and to do a pair of 8'' Subs (to keep weight down) on around 500 watts! Let me know what you guys think!
