Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Yeah I would rather have things sealed off firing forward in hopes of avoiding some of the rattles even though my trunk is pretty well deadened, we will see I just wanted to do something you don't see often and this would be one of those things plus this will likely be one of my last trunk builds as I went with an 18 so I can get another and go walled down the road if everything goes well.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Can't hurt to try even a sub up port back config would sound good provided you deaden the hell out of your back deck and trunk

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

That octoport box didn't exactly slide in I had a hell of a time getting the bish out too. I didn't even share what I believe my design is going to be for the 18. The only thing is that it might not work because my trunk isn't 19 inches tall at the opening so even if I could build this box in the trunk I'm not sure I could get the sub in. I'll experiment when I get it if not I'll go sub up ported to the rear or drivers side. The port size isn't set in stone I just wanted to draw something on there.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Wel small update got my FT1's in a week or so ago, I have them hooked up to the head unit on the factory crossovers. I really like them they are plenty loud on head unit power seem to be really efficient. Won't really know how they sound with a real sub stage until I get my ZV4 in hint hint hint

For the record I test mounted them on the dash firing them at each other and the windshield seemed to really amplify the high frequencies so I opted for the doors. They sound good to me but might not be right for everyone.

Installed picture

Made rings for support didn't want to just screw right to the door panel.

Just Mt Pleasant to Mio, so it's probably post office based.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Alright so this is the box that I have been dragging my feet on for the last 3 2 months and I just finished it up today other than staining it because in all reality it's too cold for that ish.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Thanks burkeh I really couldn't have done it without all of your help I'm glad you thought of repurposing the carpet padding. Getting it through the hole wasn't bad the tough part was you have to jack the car up get underneath pull the wire down and then feed it up through the engine bay which was tedious with six runs. Now if I could just figure out why my bc2k isn't giving me any output I'd be happy.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

I get the reduced engine power light every now and then too but it makes no difference. Dude, I bet that was suuuch a bish getting those 6 runs through that tiny hole lmao. Everything looks great as usual though.

That carpet pad is just a dense memory foam that's almost 1lb/ft^2 so lowes or HD should have something similar (probably a lot more than $.79.ft2 though :P)

Edit: I should add it's 3/8" thick with a 10lb rating.
double edit: it's one solid piece of memory foam, not bits all compiled together to make a sheet. Lowes pad sucks for what we want and HD has some memory foam pad but it's the stuff that is pieces of memory foam, not one sheet.

The closest pad HD has to our stuff we actually sell too. We call it Future Guard, they call it Future Foam. It's roughly 1/2" thick (way too thick IMO) and has an 8lb rating. They sell it for $.79/ft^2 and we sell it for $.69/ft^2. So what you get at HD/Lowes won't be near as good and cost more too Maybe look into special ordering but at that point it might just be worth it to go with a Second Skin product.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

I would assume you can I don't remember the exact brand name I will find it for joo, link to said Bluetooth thingy?

It's called spillmaster carpet pad it's essentially like tempur pedic foam. Also is there an obd2 that works with iPhone or Mac? All the ones I saw were for android.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

I managed to run everything off the stock terminals surprisingly I need to get my machinist friend to make me some or get some project team db ones. Yeah the car still drives the same just has the light which makes no sense. I did find today that one of my center console electrical plugs didn't get plugged back in so I'm going to re-pull it to hook it back up maybe that will get rid of the light but I have my doubts. Also I don't get a burkeh discount but I went with a 6x6 square and I still have a 1x6 price left over. Total it was $30 .79/ft^2 for all the foam I may try and put a little more up front but overall I'm very happy. It would probably take a little more to get up the sides of the tunnel since I used the fatmat deadener if you just went with foam.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

That light really doesn't seem to do anything. Mine will pop up like once a month for a day or two, drive exactly the same, then go away without doing anything.

There isn't much room in the engine bay on these things to put the fuses and wire. Nice job on getting it all to fit. Also what do you have for terminals?

If that pad works that well I'm going to have to do that eventually.... (repairs eating up the audio budget ) Stock isn't too bad in town but gets noisy on the interstate. How much did that cost without the Burke discount?

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Alright picture time lol.

I used the carpet padding that burkeh recommended and wow does it make a difference. I would recommend it to everyone.

Got my wire ran up through the cabin into the engine bay which was a pita.

Grounds all crimped and ready to go on.

All cleaned up or as good as it gets for now.

Zip tied and sitting nicely.

Interior almost all the way in.

Where the wire is under the carpet in the back you can't really tell in the front it's a little more noticeable.

The ol' kinnetik hooked back up.

A new spare tire cover out of 1/4 inch mdf the old one was ugly and sagging. Amps all in and wired up.

Finishing touches on the back

Made almost $4 in change on this job lol.

Only issue is one of my grounds is a little too short so I am going to order a connector to extend it. Upon putting my bc2k in my amp powers on but has no output mids and highs work fine. Also my reduced engine power light came on in my dic bit it still seems to drive exactly the same idk. Will have to troubleshoot some ish today.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

Well made some progress tonight didn't really rush myself just took my time I don't particularly want to do this all twice. Anywho pictures.
Back seat out the top part took forever the two large bolts were ridiculously stubborn and we don't have any pneumatic tools.

Front seats were also a pita the bolts were also very set in but once I broke them loose they came easy.

Everything out and my finger lol.

View through the trunk.

Got my runs all cut and ready to rock decided to go for 6 total like I said want to try and make this a one time deal.

Little comparison picture from left to right it's Tsunami ofc, Audiotechnix cca, KNU cca, Shok 5280 cca (or something like that) and lastly the new Shok Sound Specialists Cca.

Jackets

Used the rest of my scrap deadener to do the tunnel seemed like the best place since I have other plans for the rest.

More updates to come tomorrow will have it done or so I hope.

Re: Nkrell11's Pontiac Grand Prix Build

that design on the front looks good, beats a flat face baffle.
finished product should look sharp.

thanx for sharing

good luck on your journey.
