Tairance is in the red - Must have upset some poeple...
Default Upgrade!

Hello everyone! First time posting here so let me introduce myself, I'm Tairance from Ontario, Canada. I'm quite new at the mobile audio department and this is what brings me here.

I have installed a few systems before like in my civic, I installed 2 alpine type s with the type r components on a kicker 1000w amp. Then the most recent setup was a CDA-9887 on a alpine 1000w mono to Alpine type R 12's on factory infinity gold components. I know these systems were kids stuff and now onto my real problem.

I have been having the itch to upgrade and I have looked into some things and rushed off to start the build. I purchased an Alpine IVA-D106 head unit for starters then I was trying to decide on either Kicker's Solo X or Alpine's Type X. I was leaning more towards Alpines line because I have always trusted them and never tried anything else so if anyone has any opinions on which to choose im still open on that. Ive heard the Kicker is +loud but -sound quality but the alpines are =loud and =sound quality? I'm not sure if that's right haha

Now after I choose my subs this is what I need help with:

What amp should I choose/how many will I need?

Do I need to upgrade my battery or run multiple batteries?

How do I do all this? I pretty much need an installer guardian angel haha
I'm not really on a budget but I don't have $10K to drop on my system either.
All help is appreciated! Thanks guys!

The Solo X is a SPL sub. The Type X is a SQ sub. It'll help to know more what your looking for. If you just want to get loud the Solo X would be the better of the 2 subs you listed. The Type X systems i've heard sounded great but weren't that loud. If you want to get a mix of SPL & SQ you'd be better off w/ the Type R's than the Type X's. A couple of 12" R's in a nice ported enclosure tuned around 35hz or lower w/ around 650-800 watts rms to each would slam in a Jeep. There's other subs also that will get louder & sound better, plus won't drain your bank... AQ, FI Audio, just to name some. As far as your wiring & electrical needs, no one can really anwser that until they know what amps, & how much Power you'll be using. Hope this helps...

Default Re: Upgrade!

Im looking for some ground pound subs. I have took what you said into consideration and have sourced out a Kicker Solo X 18 w/ ported box and wiring for $700.00CAD. I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not but I think i'm going to go ahead with this. I'm curious as to what amp(s) I should buy for this application and if i'm gong to need to upgrade my electrical. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

My type r's are in a bassworx pored enclosure.. The size im not sure.

It will definitely be loud. Your looking at a 5000 watt rms sub. Thats a whole other league than 1000 watts & 2 Type R's. Your gonna need to do alot of upgrades to run that sub. As for a box and amps, a very large vented box tuned around 35hz or so w/ 2 Kicker kx2500.1's strapped or if you can afford it Kicker's new Warhorse amp. It'll be loud. You're gonna need alot of 1/0awg power/ground cable, H.O. alternator, a few good batteries (like Kinitek, XS Power, Optima, ect...) Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
