Question Seat vibration

Ive noticed that your seat vibrates when you have bass. But Ive alot noticed that the vibration can make your system feel likes it louder then it is because your body is moving an it fills like your eardrums are moving. But it doesnt do that when you get out the seat. So Whats a way to stop that seat vibration? Help it not vibrate so much.

sure. add strength to the seats. anything thats more rigid will vibrate less. one piece racing seats will vibrate a lot less than your average factory honda seat

Default Re: Seat vibration

The real way to stop vibration is to decouple the sub woofer enclosure from the vehicle by using some sort of isolation material.

Would you mind elaborating on this? I'm fairly certain that the air movement causes the seats to move. Hell, my box is laying on, not secured to, a flimsy board that scion called a floor in my trunk, and I've got some nice seat vibrations going on.

just curious but if you find that it sounds/feels/seems louder why are you worried about stopping it? lol but yeah you could even try to add some kind of material to yur seat back

Personally, I like a little vibration when the bass hits, but apparently some of the sanctioning bodies felt it detracted from the music. Basically, you want to be sure that if there is any vibration at all from any of your drivers, that it doesn't get transferred to the car... so, you put some sort of shock absorber between the driver and the vehicle. For a sub enclosure you could use a thick rubber gasket or neoprene at the points where the enclosure mounts to the vehicle to soak up the vibrations. I have never personally done this, as I said, I like the vibration and feeling the music, but that's the concept.

Isnt that why we say to Build good enclosures? Like double baffle, braces, birch or mdf wood? If the sub is vibrating, it needs to be securly secured..... Right?

Because the sub is moving with the music, it is almost always going to cause even the best enclosure to vibrate... because that enclosure is secured to the vehicle, it's going to cause the vehicle to vibrate as well. By isolating the enclosure from the vehicle with some sort of damping material, you are really going to lessen the amount of vibration that gets transferred to the vehicle.

I'm not buying it. My box isn't secured to the floor and the floor isn't secured to the vehicle. It's not the box vibrating that causes your seats to vibrate

So another question. Is it the floor thats vibrating? Or is just the sound waves.

It is the sound waves making the seats move back and forth vibrating plain and simple. A louder setup equals greater wave amplitude which equates to stronger force and causes more flex. The best thing would be to get some bucket seats or racing seats. It isn't the floor vibrating.

Do you know how waves travel? It's from one molecule hitting the next. Hence there being no sound in a vacuum, there's no molecular contact. Therefore, I'm right in saying its the air doing it

... well I do agree but.. to a certain extent saying air just makes it sound like the subs are literally just pushing air out then sucking it back in which isn't true. It is the waveform created by the subs that travels through the air molecules that produces the sound and flex

Air is the medium that applies a force on the seats, therefore its the cause. End of story. Stop arguing with me!
