Default Alpine swr 8

Heres a little xmas gift for you guys, i know i promised this quite a while ago.

My first impressions of the swr are very good. It's currently in a ported enclosure, about .6 cubes tuned to 34 Hz. Initial listening definitely confirms some of the suspicions I had, but also revealed a few finer points I hadn't considered.

To sum it, pretty good output, but still remains very precise. It blends very well, certainly better than my mag, mainly due to its reach into higher frequencies. It does struggle on the deep stuff, it definitely falls off fast below the tuning frequency, but it handles most of the stuff I've thrown at it to this point.

I listen to hip hop, r and b, and some rock so I figured I'd give a run down for each of those types. im sure once my gf gets it into her Car this week, ill get some more time to listen to it, and most likely a wider variety.

I had Usher in my cd player at the time, so we might as well start off with that. The Raymond vs Raymond album has incredibly differing bass from track to track, so its a perfect test. One of the biggest things ive notice is that it blends beautifully on his more "musical" tracks. The punchiness is just right, and it can still rumble on his more "party" types. On Lil freak, the sub definitely displays it muscle, and it does just as well on hot toddie, even hitting the higher notes as well. On the slower songs, its got just enough presence, and i found it found a role as a filler, letting the comps handle the majority of the sound

For hip, hop/rap I listened to some Lil Wayne, just cuz I have a large variety of his music. You certainly won't be pounding the block and set off alarms, but it'll keep up with most smaller systems, and stay very clean the whole time. Fire flame has nearly continuous bass, and I never heard it get sloppy, despite me pushing it to nearly its limit. Right above it was much of the same story. Hit the deeper notes, and never got tripped up by the quicker stuff.

Rock is where I expected it to excel before purchasing it, and it definitely does. I was listening to some linkin park and its incredibly subtle, but it's still definitely there. It blends seamlessly with the components up front, handling the bass guitar, drums, and anything else that is thrown at it.

A lot of the time i was listening to it, I forgot it was even there. Ill admit its not a subwoofer I would likely buy(or at least not one of them), but im nearly certain certain this will be perfect in my gf's car. It has enough output to make the bass present, and retains great sq while to doing it. In terms of output, one on one id say it could handle an entry level sealed 12 using half the space. Power handling on it was pretty good, and i dont see any reason why it couldnt handle more than its rated rms with the usual caution. i ran some in the 400 rms range and it never bottomed out on more, but i do think it was getting very close to it on stuff below tuning, so its something to be mindful of.

for the price, 100 bucks give or take, id say its a great buy if your just looking to fill in the low end. obviously if you want an 8 that pounds, buy one of jacobs. however, if your just looking for a little boom, and a good blend of sq, i dont think you can go wrong here.

i got it all wired up in her Car today, it sounds fantastic in her tiny azz car. stays subtle when you want it to, but crankbit up and it gives the mirrors a little wobble. im very impressed given the fact that its just a low power 8

quick vid i shot while i have her car for the day. her ipod has some terrible music, and nothing with bass, so this is all i got
im still very impressed with it, you can feel it a little bit, and it sounds good. no complaints at all. got a pretty decent amount of excursion for such a tiny speaker too
