Default Nendo CZ65 component review

These were more of a impulse buy when Nendo had their Black Friday sale. Really that's all there wasn't really any reason I needed these other then the price was right. As far as what I will do with these? Well there not going into the car. At one point here, once I grab some new tires, I will be doing my computer build. Since I have really no use for these I will Build a 2.1 setup and place these in a small sealed box and call it that. I will be doing a simple ported box for a 8" sub as well. Nothing massive here.

I will be placing pictures, video's and my thoughts up tomorrow before work. I want to listen to these for a little bit to get a good understanding how they act on various songs.

Sorry I haven't gotten this up yet. Had a few delay's due to work. Had to work a Double yesterday into today and had a safety (waste of time) meal yesterday. I will get this up. It's just taking a little longer then I'd like.

Default Re: Nendo CZ65 component review

I wish I could compare these more to other speakers within the entry level 6.5 component systems out there but I will try to do my best with these as I'm used to my active setup in the Car and virtually unlimited EQ options.

Anyway I want to start out with a few pictures of the components themselves.

There are multiple tweeter pods/mounts, and grills for the woofers that I didn't take a picture of as well.

CZ 6.5 Specifications

Power rating RMS
100 Watts
Sensitivity
89.6 dB 1W/1m
Frequency response
60Hz - 21KHz
Impedance
4 Ohm

Crossover Slope
2 x 12 dB L/H
Crossover frequency
3800 Khz

CZ 6.5" Woofer
Mounting depth
2 3/8"
Overall Diameter
6 1/2"
Hole Cutout
5 1/2"

CZ 20mm Tweeter
Mounting depth
3/4"
Overall Diameter
2 1/4"
Hole Cutout
1 15/16"

Crossover size- 5.25" x 2.75" (1.5" tall)

Components:

6.5" Woofer

These are very nice looking with the carbon fiber looking cone and cone dust cap. These utilize small push type terminals which accept no bigger then 16 gauge speaker wire. Which is plenty but I would have liked to see the hole slightly larger as it just fits 16 gauge.

The mounting point for the terminals is plastic for obvious reasons but I would warn people to be careful and support both sides as over time I see this possibly breaking with repeated use.

The basket is of all metal design which I like to see.

Tweeter:

Well to be very honest these don't really fit well with the woofer as far as looks. The silver accent is nice but with the woofer being black on black I would have liked to see the tweeter follow the same paint scheme or even incorporate silver into the woofer.

I know in many cases that won't matter as the woofer won't be visible but that's just my opinion.

Crossover:

Quite small and compact. You have the option to do +3 Flat -3 on the tweeter via 3 position switch. The cover has the option to leave the window on or off as it isn't glued from the factory. At least that's my take on it.

Sound:

For an entry level component set I would give these a 8 out of 10 as far as overall sound.

The woofers are quite natural sounding and well balanced IMO. Great out of the box for those who don't have a lot of EQ. On the other hand the tweeters are the downfall of this component set IMO. They are very crisp which I don't mind but are fairly bright and can be overwhelming without EQ or proper placement.

I'm going to try the RTS-1 tweeters with this kit to see how they do. I had to return the one set I got as one of the tweeters were messed up. Nendo took quite good care of me +1 for Nendo. I should have those today and I will test them out tomorrow.

I have a few video's of these playing that I will post up tonight as well once they upload.

I powered these via a Junsi P350 Power supply and a PPI900.4 (one with the least amount of issues with it. Output filter needs fixed so tweeters had a slight hiss due to this). I am on the waiting list to have mine repaired. My source unit was my laptop using a USB sound card. (Eq set to flat)

I'm going to work on this review. Didn't like how things came out. The amp I'm using has noisy output and needs repairs so I don't think I'm being fair using it as far as the tweeters concern (seems to be where the most noise is present). I can't even give these full power with these amps due to there issues. Hopefully I can borrow a good amp from 98Civic (I'm sure your brothers amp isn't in the car yet) in which I can provide a clean signal to these speakers and can get better pictures and hopefully better vids of these free air and in enclosure. Here are the video's (sorry for the slop):

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

I will get everything fixed up and formated how I want it. This will give me more time to listen to these and see what I can do EQ wise. I will also post up my 2.1 build when I go to build it next month.

Ok... I will have to see what I can work out. It would be right around the time I build the 2.1 setup in January here.
