what a stupid thread...JL has much louder, better sounding, and higher quality subs
EXCEPT for the MTX 9500s.....i would chose that over a w7 any day

JL = sql or sq... now dont get me rong, they get REALLY loud.

MTX = only higher line has good spl.

JL FTW on this one. MTX doesnt have much to offer IMO.

Get the MTX9500 - it's alot cheaper and is quite good.

If you were thinking about SQ, go with a JL W6 over the W7 or anything MTX builds.

MTX puts biased opinions on their websites saying they're louder & such..
but as I said, it's biased.. neither JL or MTX are very good companies..
MTX isn't very loud.. JL is overpriced.. IMO, I would choose a different company.

It's fine w/me that you 'helped him' but it's in tha manner that you helped him that made me laugh.
That REALLY gets traffic up for a forum when tha people 'helping' are ****s.
Plus, do you even have experience w/either companies?
Have you owned a 9500 or a W7?

Nooo, it's not about starting ****, it's about giving correct information.
It's not about 'hearing' because there are SO many variables between systems.
One guy can have a quiet ass W7 off a little amp.. another can have one in a better box, bigger amp & be much louder.. same w/tha 9500.
No need to get upset anytime someone calls you on something.

in my opinion, it has primarily been like this:

jl - sq
mtx - spl

i make this statement based on the history of each company and their overall design goals. remember, this is general opinion, either can go both ways, but if you were to select an appropiate sub for an spefic application, this will hold true for most cases.

The W7 is more of an SQ woofer than anything. It will get decently loud, but it is still primarily and SQ machine. They are however drastically overpriced for what you get, imo.

The 9500 is an awesome sub. They can take alot of abuse and put out great SQ and SPL. I'm sure stratus can chime in more on this since I believe he has compared both subs in his car. Don't forget that he did a 148 in the trunk with one 9500 12 in a very musical box.

I've also heard them in basic ported boxes with that much Power and they take it fine and still get loud and sound good... Install is very important with MTXs subs, but if you can get it right, they rock.

If you've got money to throw away, get a W7. If you want something that's louder than the W7 with almost the SQ, but have a little less money to throw away, get the 9500.
