Default Opinions on my next setup, exp. welcome

Hi, my name is Matt and I'm new to RoE but not to stereos.

I'm going to be getting my next stereo setup (at least the subwoofers) pretty soon and wanted to hear some opinions from those who have heard more setups personally than I have.

I'm really into SPL, SQL is good but not my main concern. What will push more SPL though, (1) 15" or (2) 12" pushing 24" of excursion? (2) 15" would be a little harder since I drive an Eclipse hatch.

I'll start by saying I can't afford dub 7's or XXX's and real high end stuff like that.

I've got my choices somewhat narrowed as far as 15" go.

Kicker CVX 15" (overstock special, i can get one for 200 w/shipping flat price)
Alpine Type R 15" (i've heard 2 12"s hooked up built 100% to spec and DAMN!)
MTX Thunder 9500 15" (I'd probably find a sledgehammer box to go with it)

I used to own (2) 12" Alpine Type X until they got jacked. Yeah, they were very loud but I'm so used to it now that I kinda crave more.

Thoughts and ideas welcome!!! Thanks!

Matt

DO NOT buy a prefab box.

And as far as the "excursion" goes. It's about cone area, area for a circle is

pi x radius^2=area

although having 2 12s will have more cone area.

226.08

while a single 15 has
176.625

and an 18 has
254.34

basic rule of thumb. You get what you pay for, if you try to go for a cheap setup, thats what it is going to be.

You can find alot of deals on the forums on used stuff, i picked up a mojo 15" for cheap money and am looking at a RE 35.1 right now.

The napalm as said above isn't working, coil is seperated from the tinsel lead.

build, or get a box built for the sub you are getting, prefab factory boxes are a waste of money and will get you nowhere.

Fi audio is an amazing brand, if you have the money to spend, grab a btl, just be prepared to upgrade your electrical system to be able to power the thing.

yah, my budget is fairly tight. The max I would be willing to spend on 1 good sub is 400 dollars, or on two pretty good subs.

how much for fi Q or ssd, and where can i find an online retailer? i usually shop through soniclectronix but the highest end stuff they sell is JL dub 7's, and although those are good SPL and build quality, there are imo still way overpriced.

oh my mistake, i thought it said i can afford.

Missed that one. Alright!

I'd go for for whichever of fis series you can afford, the ssd is a good one for the budget, the Q is just a step up, and the BL, is just upgrading parts on the Q.

www.ficaraudio.com
^^^^only place to buy them.

wow, Fi looks good. 1 15" Q or BL sounds good. any opinions on which is better?

BTL is affordable until amps, alts, and batts come into play and i don't have that kind of money lol

i also notice the BL has options spl or daily stuff. well i want loud on a daily basis lol. any ideas here? i didn't realize Fi is so affordable and i've only heard good things about them.

stick with the daily setup. Scott from FI has said before that the spl will not sound that great in a daily setup, its meant for just getting loud.

the q and bl are technically the same sub until the upgrade options come into play.

awesome. and for 1 grand finale to make my mind up 100%, how would the Fi Bl daily driver 15" compare to the (possibly overpriced?) MTX 9500 15", which was what I would have probably purchased otherwise.

well not to mention i live in montana, no one gets super serious about db drags and sweet setups the way they do in other states and cities, my Fi would probably be a one of a kind around here.

Thanks for all the help guys, i'll be stickin around these forums for a long time to come.
