Default 2 18"s ported or 4 sealed?

I need some opinions for next seasons setup so help me out...

I will be running 5k rms by the use of 2 orion 2500D's at 1 ohm each and the box is going to be a wall either way

So what would be the best for a ground pounder / bassrace setup in my jeep?

(a) my 2 18" xxx's ( older style) walled at 29hz on 5k rms

OR

(b) 4 18" subs (not sure of brand yet) walled in a sealed box on 5k
rms

Cant really comment on the RD products, but I know the Q 12 and 15s sound great and still get loud sealed. Never heard a Q 18, so Im not sure if those work well sealed. Just send Scott an email and ask him.

Another option is the SSDs sealed. Maybe see if you can run a couple sealed SSDs. Like 8 SSD 15s in a sealed box would be sick. I know a guy with 12 SSD 15s sealed on like 700rms each and everyone who has heard it said it sounds louder on music than Jethro Eason (who can bassrace a 157) and Frankie (who can BassBox a 160).

SSDs rock sealed.

The 05 XXX 18 would be my choice sealed... they have an F3 of 35 Hz sealed and as much or more excursion as anything else out there, except the newer XXX

Do your XXXs have the curvelinear cones? Eg: exponential profile? If so... I have three for sale that would match those. I got my re-cones from FI as well.

It means the cone is not a stright \/ cone, it has a curved profile (looks like a graph of an exponential function). And yes, mine has concave dust cap too

One sold already, so three are left.

Thanks for that quick explanation haha... do you have a F.s. thread for these somewhere? I'll have to keep an eye on them.... i dont really have the funds for anything at the moment so im tryin to get ideas I would buy all of them right now if i had the cash!! They are the best subs i have ever heard and owned IMOP

You are right though.. i already have 2 bad arse subs why not just add to them eventually right!

well right now my box is 16 cubes after all displacements, so if i just wall my 2 xxx's im gonna basically Build off of the box i have now and have the port face forward and subs forward with a trim ring around it to seal it off fromm the back. I am going to have it all in the back so i can still use the back seats sometimes too. Not to mention 5k rms hehe

Well i look at it this way. My buddy had 2 12" L7s in a ported box and was pounding and hitting 147-149 on the ac. Then he got 4 12" L7's in a box that was only 8 cubes and the box was just way too small and was hitting a 141. He uprgraded his amp from the zx1500.1 to the zx2500.1 and he was hitting like crap but it sounded deep only due to double the cone area. I personally maximiaze the smace you have now for the 2 18"s. Also running more Power will be even better and nuttier!

I get what your saying but i think the subs should have plenty of airspace i mean they are seeing 8 cubes a piece lol ! But do you think it would make a big differance in output if i had the subs and port facing forward in a wall rather than the way it is now? or would it be a wast of time?

And i am deff getting the other 2500d so yes it will be 5k rms

No what i mean is giong from 2 18"s that will blow your car up to 4 18"s sealed. The cone area will make it loud but dont think you have enough box space

Yeah deffinitally. Your better maximizing what you have then underpowering and half useing a whole bunch. Your getter maximizing your space and power you have then running 4 underpowered subs and too small of a box. That why people as myself have 2 subs sound louder than people with 4 that have them way underpowered and a box thats barely any bigger than the subs cone and depth is barely big enough to fit the basket and motor. But my 2 in a big box ported and a lots of clean power blow them away. Hands down

Yessir, I have them on caraudio.com right now:

I wouldn't let those XXX 18s go... get more of them if you want more bass. They are mean subs with tons of throw... you really won't get many other subs to move that far without using double the power. XBL^2 prevents BL compression so they keep on moving without having to dump more and more power Great for sealed where x-max times cone area dominates SPL output... not to mention these go about as low as any sub made in a sealed box!
