The cooling is much better, can handle 600+RMS, and it takes 20% less space.

Although my previous model Type R's are getting more than 600RMS and lovin it.

I can trade mine for a set of the new ones, so I was wondering if there are any major differences or if I should just keep mine. Thanks

The newer models have a higher Power handling, I haven't see many other changes.

I would do the trade for more Power handling and because they are new and you start fresh again.

I was wondering about the new 2010 Type R's also. They say the cooling is better, but how? There is alot more vents on the '09 version, vented pole peice, and a aluminum motor cover that helps. The specs are just about the same except the new one has 20mm excursion compared to 18.2 for the '09 version, & it has 100 watts more rms which I don't think you could really tell the difference. But I could be wrong, I can't really say anything about them until I hear them. I still think the basket looks better on the '09, but I like the cone w/ the "R" at the bottom better...

Default Re: New Type R's

I recently heard the new models at my local audio store and they still get loud and still hit pretty hard. I was disappointed to hear that they didn't step up to a 3 inch coil though.

3" coil is unnecessary for a sub with a thermal rating that low. It would just mean less magnet and metal in the gap, and an overall weaker motor. Well if they kept the same outer diameter of the magnet slugs.

Default Re: New Type R's

I now have a set of the new Type R's. They are still breaking in, and seem to be getting better as time goes on. I never had the old Type R's, so the closest thing I can compare them to is my old RE SR12's. The Type R's seem to have a more acurate and detailed sound than the RE's did - kind of like comparing a slightly out of focus picture to one that is sharply focused. Anyway, I'm not an audiofile, so thats the best way I can describe it. As far as sheer output goes, when I first installed the R's I thought they weren't quite as loud as my old RE's were, but now that they have had some time to break in they seem to be about the same output as the RE's, but sound better doing it. I'm happy with them so far and I think it was worth the extra $20 each I paid to get the Type R's instead of another set of RE's.
