Default 12 inch type r vs 10 inch skar vvx

Which would be louder and have better sound quality? I have a 2 cubic foot box tuned to around 33hz and have a friend willing to sell his skar cheap so was wondering which one you guys would think would have more sq and or spl. Thanks!

No, that would be SMD because the juveniles there just make them into flame wars.

Don't know much about Skar, just what I read that they are an inferior SA due to soft parts. Having experience with the R's, personally I'd say they'd be much on par with each other, the R only winning by cone area.

Default Re: 12 inch type r vs 10 inch skar vvx

the r will take just as many watts and is actually supposed to be meant for sq in a spec box

it also has more cone area.. id take the R 12" over the Skar 10" any day if they were gonna each be on the same power...the skar may possibly take more abuse... but I dunno for sure... they are similar to an SA but still not an SA...

I know nothing of the Skar, but I can say that I've been very impressed with the new Alpine Type R's.

the new subs are fine but the 1st and 2nd gen subs were made in Japan and the USA..NOTHING is as good as that imo...

the rest have been sent out to China and also use lower grade parts. they also went from a full NBR high roll surround to the w surround.. less excursion ...also lower rms wattages on the older but more xmax and xmech both...... but the new versions also weigh double what the old model did...the newer versions are not near as good at SQ either

id go with the skar. they are built in the usa and very good quality. they can do some damage. hits the lows nicely. and since they have tall surrounds it give you a tad bit more cone area.
