On that budget, why not just convince him to get one good 12..I'm sure it'll sound bette, and likely be louder than 2 cheapies

the GPV's are not bad or cheapy subs. They are by far the best bang for the buck

$100/pair shipped on fleaBay. So far, mine actually sound like they would do well in a 3-way setup. I'll get my box built within the next couple of weeks. These subs are pretty well-built. The baskets are bigger than all my other 12's, so don't think a prefab will fit these.

not true always... in fact less often than you would think...

cone area wins..

i used 3 GPV on 1/2 the Power that 2 much better subs had and the 3 subs even on less than 1/2 the power per sub literally raped the much better subs ...it was an astonishing difference...

They are a great sub. I had my two for 5 months on 800 a piece and played full tilt all the time on dupstep and rap and screwed music... just recently though 1 got coil rub. But man they took a beating. Can't wait to get my 3 installed. I would recommend those too.

Go ahead, but it won't change a thing! Cvr's do exactly what they are designed to do. They'll never sound as good as a Sa12 or Type R, but people continue to try to compare them to subs with higher power handling. They beat everything out there at price vs. performance. You could get a Dcon 12, but it's more money. Anything that can beat a cvr in the same class will usually cost more.

One more thing. Usually the people I see running cvr's or any kickers, have them in the wrong box or a prefab. Then they complain about the sound. Just look at youtube, and look at the boxes they use. There are 2 people right now on craigslist trying to sell 4 15 cvr's in 2 crappy prefab boxes that are too small. They have 2 boxes in a suv smashed together with tiny ghey port, each box has 2 15's in it. Now tell me why should you expect good sound out of that setup? People that go with internet/underground companies are more serious and Build their own enclosures the right way. People also screw up when they don't use Kicker's recommended boxes because when you tune higher they won't hit the lows as good. Kickers boxes are tuned low.

A hifonics hfx sub would beat a cvr... and so why is your sub over double for a clearly inferior product...

im gonna have to agree that cvr's are great for there price. they get damn loud when put in the correct box. now there is obviously better and there will always be a better option to every sub theres always one that will perform or sound better, but for the price of a cvr there great subs.

when kicker rated them for 400 they were not joking 400 is about there max i would give them daily =P but if they handled the power of something like a type r they would be to good to be true.

i had the 06 ones (or maybe they were 08 i cant remember, well they were the silver faced ones) and i paid 140 a pair from sonic. now the new ones are priced higher but also have higher rms handling, but i have no clue if they perform better to outweigh the price increase

You are crazy! They will not beat cvr's. The m12d4 won't either. The zx12d4 is a fair comparison against the cvr. The cvr will stomp a mudhole in the hfx's dirty azz til the world ends!

when kicker rated them for 400 they were not joking 400 is about there max i would give them daily =P but if they handled the power of something like a type r they would be to good to be true.
love the sig
