Default Kicker L510

A buddy of mine (born in Mexico) has a show Car that he had a multitune port solobaric box built for his L5 10". He keeps telling me it's a 12...I've only been around Solos that were already in boxes, so I don't know nuthin'! He probably speaks better English than I, but he has trouble explaining things. Basically, he wants to know how to Wire it to get the most out of it. This is after I told him he needs to figure out if the voice coils are 2 or 4ohm, and which amp he was panning on running.

So, I came here for suggestions on amps and VC config. I can't find any parameters on it either - maybe somebody knows?

Remove sub from box and it should have a model number something like s10L5 d4 or something like that you need to know the ohm of the sub in order to find the minimum ohms

Still can't get him to understand resistance.

"Oh, there is 2 terminals on one side and 2 terminals on the other side." :smfh:

He was the one I probably mentioned before, who wanted my help doing all the work for him on his rear shelf. Finally, I hooked him up with a composite supplier and he reaffirmed everything I told him and he actually took the time, over a couple of months and a few not-so-good batches later, and made his painter do all the sanding.

I'll ask him if I can post some pics of his Jetta. Not my style, but I've seen many stages and seen some of the work that went into it and all I can say is DAMN! I told the painter respectfully that all the mistakes look good. He's taken home many trophies, pretty much every show. He took 1st in the IFO (Import Face Off) a couple weeks ago.

I might end up going over and doing it myself anyway. He was going to put a ~1/8" piece of plexi from home depot on the box, and I told him "I wanna watch it blow out!" He ended up getting 3/4" and I stopped him from peeling the paper off until we cut it and mount it. He wants to get an amp from Best Buy, just because he wants to use his BB credit card.

I might as well just tell him that either he pays me to do everything or have a nice day. I'll definitely save him some money. He's about as focused as a high school boy at the Playboy Mansion.

Default Re: Kicker L510

Just thought I'd post an update. WARNING - I may use some colorful language...

He needed to get everything slammed in there in a hurry Friday night so he could go to some DUB and lowrider show 160 miles away the next morning. Again, he didn't listen to a word I said and quickly paid at least $100 too much for a Planet audio AC2500.1 (?). I never had any experience with them until today. Ugh***mejesustoast!

It was horrible. He didn't win anything this time. I asked him how he could wire everything up and NOT HAVE TIME TO TUNE IT, or even make it sound decent. 2 different colors of 14 ga. I think I saw a Power Acoustic 4 channel in there, and he said he had another amp under the dash for the 3" Polk mid/tweeter coaxes in the dash that weren't even audible. I went with him on my lunch break, told him to set the sub amp at 1/2, switch it to 2v, roll off the bass to -2, turn the sub out on the dvd screen to below full...

It cleaned up sorta nicely. I still don't like Kicker. Yes, it IS a 10". He doesn't even know how he wired it. It was LOUD, not SQ quality by my ears. I think my BRZ1200 with 2x12's @ 900w sounded louder and better. It sounded way better OUTSIDE the car. The port was tearing off the tint on the rear window! I don't know what the box was tuned to, but it wasn't hittin' lows. My 300w Infinity Perfect box (23hz) will blow his away at lows, even though his is at least 3x as loud. There was also some "in and out" like the amp was dying...

I can't help him. "It sounds way better now, dude." The gain is all jacked up again, even on the highs. I'll never understand why people need to have poor sound quality REALLY LOUD. Whatever. The last time I helped him I ended up doing it all myself. Never again without pay. I'll smell the magic smoke soon enough.
