Default Electric cars

I was wondering... What if we put a stereo in a electric car? Would there be any advantages, an disavantages for us Car audio people in the future? Like would we have to not play are stereo so much because it cost alot of kilowatts? Kinda like how the A/C takes up gas by sitting in the car to stay warm. Basicly like, Whats your pros and cons on the electrical idea?

The Electric Tesla Roadster | Tesla Motors

That's the only electric Car I'd buy.

Probably never have a problem with voltage drop but yes, I'd think it would significantly drop the range of the vehicle using a high powered stereo.

disaavantages easy hands down. it takes power to make power. the engines is the power to run a alt, there is no way a electric car can be effeciant with a stere of 500 watts or more, unless there is a super conductor involved which has not been made yet, tesla came close but not close enough.

a/c dont keep us warm a/c is only used in summer months, just the push fan that a/c and the heater share. if you use ac in winter you just burning fuel thats not needed to be burned.

Default Re: Electric cars

I honestly think in the next 10 20 years super loud car stereos will be a thing of the pass. for one stock systems in newer cars are pretty nice. so that eliminates the reason for companys to produce low line stuff because that already comes stock in your car they will just be able to make money off high end stuff and that market is pretty narrow. PLUS if I aint mistaken citys and towns and states are trying to cut down on systems maken it illegal to have it so loud and so on. and then you have the electric car issue. I don't think thats the issue, I think its the small engin gas cars that will puke out with a HO alt on them. LOL

Electric cars usually use a high voltage battery bank, usually 100 volts.

Bingo. There would have to be a whole new line of audio developed to even think about using the full potential of the power source in an electric car. I don't see it happening.

Yeah, but inverters/converters (w/e) can be used to drop the voltage to a useable amount.

But your inverters or converter would be extremely expensive. Most are only rated for low amperage.

Well everything off that car cant possiably work @ 100 volts. So there has to be some type converter to tap into that can convert it to a good voltage.

amperage is the thing though as said them converters are only rated for a set amount of amperage, so lets say its 50amp converter you try putting a amp that pulls 100 either the converter will fry or the amp, and if i was to guess the converter wouldnt be anywhere as cheap as an amp.

the chevy volt is a pretty cool car imo, no balls though. But with cars like that and the pruis, you use the cars 'starting' battery not the battery bank, lite stated above they're extremely high voltage. I believe the pruis is well about 100 though

Electric cars are a bad idea because it would limit so many things that stereos imo. What If all I can afford to do is DRIVE to Michigan? will my car last that long? I like the idea of them, but as a stereo head, I wouldn't. and as far as cities and such cutting out loud stereos is slightly unfair because I know other things that are more annoying and harmful than bass. Hell, bass can even help those tired drivers to stay awake so they want crash into the houses that they supposedly disturb.

If were lucky, our grand kids wont have to deal with this issue. Or audio companies will make a break threw to were they can have stereo's too. Because i doubt there gonna start makin cars, that are eletric, with 2 15's and 4 12's an walled off subs.

Lol, bassheads will just start putting small engines in their trunks with an alternator on them.

Or massive battery banks

I GOT IT!! Extra battery in the trunk, extra alternator. Like how they have the multi alternator kits now, just make some for the new model cars. You'll have a seprate power supply. Also, if you hate the stock radio so much, put a h/u in the glove box. Or just tap into the stock subwoofer. Because alot of newer cars have stock subwoofers now.

I like rear wheel drive cars. I've never owned a front wheel drive car. That little blue car that I run the HCCA sub and stuff in will burn straight through 1st and 2nd. It's about 295 at the wheels. Zip zip.
