Drop spindles vs coils?

Anyone have any opinions on this ? going to be my first drop ( 98 sonoma).

the price difference isnt THAT big a deal ( coils = less ) but not sure which route to go :?

drop spindle do not change geometry or ride, that is my pick, or lower control arm dropped spring pockets... My truck I did a 3" lower control arm and 2.5" spring...

One difference between spindles and springs is with spindles is your camber on the front will stay about the same so your tires won't wear out as fast on the inside. The average drop, I think, on the front is 2" and 3" on those sonoma's with some springs and blocks.

2" springs will cause the front tires to tuck in some but not like on a slammed mini truck or anything.

I went with Western Chassis spindles on the front of the van and a DJM flip kit on the rear. You can go with lowering blocks on the rear and springs on the front which is basically a 2-3 drop.

Here's the selection on Ebay: sonoma lowering kit | eBay

This kit's not too shabby for $139: S10 SONOMA BLAZER JIMMY 1/2 LOWERING DROP KIT Coils Springs Blocks V6 | eBay

This kit's $300 but it comes with spindles: 1994-04 GMC SONOMA PICKUP V6 DROP KIT 4" FRONT 4" REAR SUSPENSION LOWERING 669 | eBay

I got the "new/old" stock Western Chassis drop spindles from Summit Racing which have since been discontinued for the 85-94 Chevy Astro. I paid $300 for them but they were the only ones anywhere I could find for a decent price. Summit had them and no one else did.

Re: Drop spindles vs coils?

ok cool, so spindles would be the better choice then huh? they look a little easier to change in the drive way vs coils anyway :P

Cxa, i done gutz me a noice wagonnn

wow boosted got ahead of me lol. gonna read that now :p

I was actually looking at DJM kits, they were either spindles/coils and blocks for the rear. im more so going for the easiest do it yourself, i dont really want to pay for someone to do it if i dont have to :P ,

I was looking at a 2/3" drop, 4 sort of seems like a little much lol

5.5"/7" drop, I know its a full size, but wheel gap is about the same between the 2 types

Re: Drop spindles vs coils?

DJM is probably your most cost effective, reliable...

Boosted77 07-30-2012 06:07 PM

Re: Drop spindles vs coils?

DJM makes some high quality stuff and is a cheaper route than going with belltech or something like that:

Products Belltech Sport Trucks and Muscle Cars

But honestly, this company sells the whole darn kit (front and rear), lifetime warranty on the goods and free shipping for $172.50. That's a good deal.
