I can't speak for him but I will tell you why I do. Believe it or not overpowering a sub is no where near as damaging as sending it a clipped or unclean power. For example. My current subs in my civic are AQ HDC3's. They are 1k each but underrated. I could put a 1500w amp to each of them as most would but I would likely be sending it a clipped signal at some point just because I like to beat them and eventually will blow them. However I currently have a par of 3500s on them. Its way overkill for that sub but I can actually send all of that Power to them for short periods of time without a problem but on average I give them about 2k worth and they love every bit of it. Its because its a completely clean signal. So really if you can afford to go overboard with power then do it.

I'd run them at .5 ohm on those subs

That should be decent on those amps. It wont last real long at idle or with the car off but watch your voltage and you should be fine. On your new alternator consider one of the ones that does like 275 at idle. Unless your only driving highway you will likely see more power out of it because of its constant production at low rpms. The nice thing is the endo amps are good for a .5 ohm nominal load and if you find that the electrical isn't up to it then just back the gains down a bit and you end up with the same output as you would have had with 1 ohm load and no clipping at all. I can't find any reason not to run them at .5 ohm. I guess there a little less efficient but not by a lot.
